About this Research Topic

Submission deadlines

Background

This Topic aims to bring together interdisciplinary research on how agronomic and crop management practices can enhance both crop productivity and quality in economic crops and staple food crops, while responding to the challenges posed by current climate variability and future climate change. Relevant management strategies may include, but are not limited to, nutrient management, irrigation practices, sowing date adjustment, cultivar choice, canopy and density regulation, soil and water conservation measures, and integrated cropping system management.

This Topic is highly timely because climate change is increasingly affecting crop growth, yield formation, quality traits, and resource-use efficiency across a wide range of production systems. There is a strong need to better understand how management interventions can help maintain or improve crop performance under warming, drought, extreme weather, and other climate-related stresses. Such research is essential, not only for improving agricultural productivity and product quality, but also for supporting climate adaptation and the long-term sustainability of agricultural systems.

We envision that this collection could include papers addressing topics such as:

Management practices for improving crop yield and quality under current climate conditions

Adaptive strategies for cash crops and food crops under future climate change scenarios

Interactions between climate factors and agronomic management on crop growth, productivity, and quality formation

Field-based and modeling studies evaluating management options for climate resilience

Trade-offs and synergies among yield, quality, resource-use efficiency, and environmental sustainability

Crop- and region-specific management solutions for different agroecological systems

We believe this would be a meaningful and timely Research Topic, and we would be very happy to discuss the next steps, including the confirmation of the editorial team and preparation of the topic description.
