Background

Adipose tissue plays a critical role in the regulation of metabolic health through its involvement in energy balance, glucose homeostasis, lipid metabolism, and endocrine signaling. In diabetes, alterations in adipose tissue function can disrupt these processes and contribute to insulin resistance, metabolic imbalance, and disease progression. Growing evidence highlights the importance of adipose tissue as an active regulator of systemic metabolism, influencing interactions between multiple organs and pathways involved in the development and progression of diabetes.

Advances in clinical and translational research continue to improve our understanding of how adipose tissue dysfunction affects metabolic regulation and contributes to adverse outcomes in individuals with diabetes. A deeper understanding of these mechanisms may facilitate the identification of clinically relevant biomarkers and support the development of novel therapeutic strategies aimed at improving metabolic health and diabetes management.

This Research Topic welcomes contributions addressing mechanistic insights, biomarker discovery, and therapeutic approaches with clear relevance to diabetes.

Potential themes include, but are not limited to:

• Adipose tissue dysfunction and altered tissue homeostasis in diabetes.

• Mechanisms linking adipose tissue dysfunction to impaired metabolic regulation in diabetes.

• Crosstalk between adipose tissue and other metabolically relevant organs.

• Inflammatory pathways associated with adipose tissue remodeling and insulin resistance.

• Biomarkers associated with metabolic dysfunction and diabetes progression.

• Emerging therapeutic strategies targeting adipose tissue function and metabolic regulation in diabetes.
