Women in Psychiatry 2026: Addictive Disorders

Frontiers in Psychiatry is proud to launch this year's Women in Psychiatry: Addictive Disorders collection to showcasing recent research advances from women across the entire breadth of Addictive Disorders - presenting advances in theory, experiment, and methodology.

This Research Topic is seeking submissions exploring aspects of substance use, behavioral addictions, dual diagnosis, and treatment delivered through Internet- and computer-based technologies. Papers using various methodologies are welcome, including basic science (e.g. genetic, kinetic, neurobiological research), clinical research (e.g. pharmacotherapy, psychotherapy, other neurobiological treatments, assessment, diagnostic issues), epidemiology, prevention-related topics, transnational studies, and social, law, policy, and health systems.

At present, less than 30% of researchers worldwide are women. Long-standing biases and gender stereotypes are discouraging girls and women away from science-related fields, and STEM research in particular. Science and gender equality are essential to ensure sustainable development. In order to change traditional mindsets, gender equality must be promoted, stereotypes defeated, and girls and women should be encouraged to pursue STEM careers.

Please note: to be considered for this collection, the first or last author should be a researcher who identifies as a woman.
