Inequities in Preeclampsia Care and Outcomes

Preeclampsia is a leading cause of maternal and perinatal morbidity and mortality worldwide, but its impact is not experienced equally. Outcomes are shaped by social determinants of health, such as race and ethnicity, socioeconomic status, education, geography, environmental conditions, as well as structural barriers including within healthcare systems. Inequities in access to prenatal care, early diagnosis, specialist support, treatment, and postpartum follow-up further contribute to maternal health disparities in those who have experienced pre-eclampsia.

This collection welcomes original research, reviews, and perspectives that explore the drivers of inequities in preeclampsia care and outcomes and approaches to address them. We encourage submissions examining healthcare access and quality, structural and systemic inequities, bias and discrimination, community and policy interventions, and strategies to improve prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and long-term care of pre-eclampsia.

By highlighting evidence from diverse populations and settings, this collection aims to advance a more equitable understanding of preeclampsia and support better maternal health outcomes.
