Background

This Research Topic is Volume II of a series. The previous volume, which has attracted over 19k views can be found here: Diagnosis and Treatment of Osteoporotic Fractures: Advances, Challenges, and Future Perspectives .

Osteoporosis and osteoporosis-related fractures represent significant health challenges, particularly among older adults, leading to increased morbidity and mortality rates. Despite the prevalence of these conditions, there remains a notable gap in the guidelines and principles for the early diagnosis and treatment of osteoporosis and its associated fractures. Current recommendations emphasize the importance of preventive measures and screening, especially in men with risk factors, yet the lack of comprehensive strategies for early intervention persists. Recent studies have highlighted the potential of pharmacologic therapies, which should be tailored based on safety, cost, and patient-specific factors. However, the integration of these therapies into a cohesive treatment plan is still evolving. Addressing these gaps is crucial for improving patient outcomes and reducing the healthcare burden associated with osteoporosis.

This Research Topic aims to delve into the therapies, advancements, and challenges related to the early diagnosis and treatment of osteoporosis. By synthesizing current knowledge and recent breakthroughs, the research seeks to identify potential biomarkers for early diagnosis with high sensitivity and specificity. Furthermore, it aims to tackle critical issues such as the management of perioperative anti-osteoporosis treatment, optimal screening intervals for aging populations, and the development of age-appropriate pharmacological and physical interventions. The ultimate objective is to enhance diagnostic accuracy and treatment efficacy at various stages of osteoporosis, thereby alleviating its impact on aging populations.

To gather further insights into the diagnosis and treatment of osteoporotic fractures, we welcome articles addressing, but not limited to, the following themes:

• Discovery of potential biomarkers of osteoporosis and osteoporotic fractures
• Management of perioperative anti-osteoporosis treatment for osteoporotic fractures
• Screening the risk factors of osteoporotic fractures and refracture
• In-depth exploration of the mechanisms of osteoporosis and innovative solutions for treating osteoporosis
