Background

As the global burden of aging populations and chronic non-communicable diseases (NCDs) intensifies, shifting from reactive healthcare toward population-level proactive health behaviors is paramount. Physical activity and nutritional interventions represent two of the most impactful, cost-effective cornerstones of modern preventive medicine. However, current research paradigms frequently evaluate these disciplines in isolation, creating a substantial public health translation gap.

This Research Topic aims to explore evidence-based public health strategies that promote proactive exercise and nutrition behaviors across diverse populations. We strongly encourage interdisciplinary contributions focusing on community-, workplace-, and school-based interventions, population-level assessments of proactive lifestyle determinants, and the deployment of digital health technologies to monitor and support healthy lifestyle adherence. By integrating comprehensive lifestyle promotion models and implementation science, this Topic seeks to inform health policy, provide scalable frameworks for effective preventive health programs, and foster long-term behavioral change.

Subthemes Welcome for Submission:

Epidemiology of Exercise-Nutrition Interactions: Longitudinal and cross-sectional studies examining the synergistic effects of physical activity and dietary patterns on NCD risk, biological aging, and population health outcomes.

Integrated Exercise and Nutrition Interventions: Evidence from community-, workplace-, and school-based programs evaluating the real-world impact and translation of combined exercise and nutrition strategies on population behavioral change.

Digital Monitoring and Personalization Technologies: Utilizing wearable sensors, mobile health (mHealth) platforms, and digital tools to facilitate continuous tracking, behavior modification, and tailored interventions for sustained health promotion.

Psychosocial and Cultural Determinants of Health Behavior: Examining the psychological, social, cognitive, and cultural mechanisms that shape long-term adherence and behavioral barriers to proactive exercise and nutrition practices.

Implementation Science and Policy Evaluation: Assessing scalable public health frameworks, intervention fidelity, and policy mechanisms required to translate systemic proactive lifestyle evidence into community practice.
