Respiratory diseases continue to represent a major global health burden, ranking among the leading causes of morbidity and mortality. They encompass a wide range of acute and chronic conditions—including chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), asthma, interstitial lung disease, pneumonia, acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), and pulmonary vascular disorders—that together account for millions of deaths and hospitalizations every year. Despite substantial progress in prevention and clinical management, significant challenges remain in achieving early and accurate diagnosis, effective risk stratification, personalized therapy, and reliable outcome prediction for diverse patient populations.
This Research Topic seeks to highlight cutting-edge developments in the diagnosis, management, and prognostication of respiratory diseases. A particular focus is placed on innovative biomarkers, predictive modeling, and data-driven decision-support systems that bridge clinical practice, translational research, and computational science. By integrating advanced methodologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning, and multi-omics approaches with traditional clinical research, we aim to promote precision medicine and improve patient-centered outcomes in respiratory and critical care medicine.
