Forest ecosystems play a fundamental role in regulating global biogeochemical cycles through carbon sequestration, nutrient cycling, greenhouse gas exchange, and soil-plant-atmosphere interactions. However, climate change, land-use transformation, biological disturbances, and unsustainable management practices are increasingly altering these processes, hence affecting ecosystem productivity, resilience, and long-term sustainability. Recent advances in remote sensing, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), earth observation technologies, artificial intelligence, and spatial modelling now provide unprecedented opportunities to quantify and monitor forest biogeochemical dynamics across multiple spatial and temporal scales. These technologies enable improved assessment of carbon stocks, nutrient fluxes, greenhouse gas emissions, ecosystem productivity, and restoration outcomes, while supporting evidence-based nutrient management and sustainable forest management strategies.

This Research Topic seeks to bring together cutting-edge research at the intersection of environmental science, forest management, geospatial technologies, ecological modeling, and nutrient dynamics. By integrating these disciplines, we aim to advance understanding of forest ecosystem dynamics, promote methodological innovation, and support the development of more effective, data-driven management strategies.
