About this Research Topic
The traditional process of design, construction and management in the Architecture, Engineering and Construction (AEC) sector leads to a great probability of errors and omissions, for which a late detection always brings problems and consequently severe economic losses. The increasing development and implementation of Building Information Modelling (BIM) methodology in the AEC sector contribute to several advantageous processes that can be achieved with less money and time consumption and with higher quality along all the life cycle of an AEC project. Accordingly, by using BIM, this sector can improve efficiency, performance and sustainability whilst reducing cost and waste. It is, nowadays, considered that BIM and its processes are catalyst for the development of the twenty-first-century AEC sector.
The future BIM Implementation will improve the management of complex construction and infrastructure projects, to explore how the use BIM can ensure that major architectural and engineering projects are delivered to design specifications, within the agreed timelines and on budget.
In view of the importance of BIM methodology in the AEC sector, we are launching this Research Topic, which is aiming to report and discuss the most recent findings by researchers and professionals in this domain. The themes to be covered are as follows:
