About this Research Topic
Within this Golden Research Topic (GRT), a selection of epidemiological methods will be presented, with each article covering one area of research methodology. Methods to analyze epidemiological data presented here may have been used for decades or may be relatively new. To promote their use by the broad community of epidemiologists worldwide, there is a need to understand basic principles, as well as scope to elaborate on these principles. The principles, advantages, challenges and drawbacks of the techniques are expected to be discussed in each article, so that the articles can be used as guidelines for application.
We expect your article to include the following information on the method that you are covering:
• Background information on the method, including a brief overview of the basic principles and, if borrowed from other disciplines, an overview of the method’s use and purpose in other disciplines.
• What are the primary uses of this method in veterinary epidemiology and economics?
• Clear definition and discussion of key terms related to the method, including ‘as-known-as terms’ (ideally listed in a table).
• Discussion of the alternative tests, algorithms, and approaches that are part of the method. For example, in spatial analysis, there is a range of tests that can be discussed.
• Literature review of useful examples and/or include one dataset with analysis as an example.
• Potential pitfalls and misuse of the method.
• Further discussion and thoughts for the future (e.g. further developments).
