The unique chemical and physical properties of nanoporous materials make them ideal platforms to develop chemical and biological sensors with outstanding performances. Advances in nanotechnology have resulted in multiple fabrication methods that enable the generation of nanoporous materials with precisely engineered properties at the nanoscale. These methods provide controllability, reproducibility, high resolution, scalability, high-throughput, cost-competitiveness, time-efficiency, and compatibility with conventional micro- and nanofabrication for integration into functional sensing devices. Nanoporous materials are a highly dynamic and broad research field that continues to enable excellent opportunities for further trans-disciplinary fundamental and applied research in chemical sensing and biosensing, with broad applicability in medical diagnosis, security, environmental pollution, biosecurity, and drug discovery.

This Research Topic is dedicated to recent research advances in the development, integration and application of nanoporous materials into chemical sensors and biosensors.
