Did You Know Most of the World's Ecosystems Exist in Darkness?

Did You Know Most of the World's Ecosystems Exist in Darkness? is a presentation by Katrina Edwards, a professor of biological sciences and earth sciences at the USC College of Letters, Arts and Sciences, and a pioneer in the field of geo-microbiology. In 2010, the National Science Foundation awarded her USC team $25 million to create and direct the Center for Dark Energy Biosphere Investigations. The members of Edwards' team, together with colleagues at several other major research institutions, are drilling holes in the ocean floor to study how life thrives in deep sediments and rock below the bottom of the sea.

Edwards spoke as part of the 2010 USC Alumni Association Leadership Conference panel Trojans Transforming the World, moderated by USC Provost Elizabeth Garrett.
