Setaria viridis (A10 reference Accession) with flower (panicle)

Setaria viridis, a diploid (n=9) C4 grass commonly known as green foxtail belongs to the Panicoideae clade of Poaceae Family. The relatively small genome (~515Mb) is recently sequenced and predicted to encode ~50,000 protein-encoding genes. An array of traits such as short life cycle, robust seed production and ease of growing make this grass an excellent model system to study monocot biology.
