The completion of the Human Genome Project, the subsequent appearance of next-generation sequencers, and the explosive progress of large-scale data analyses using sequencing technologies and bioinformatics have advanced the studies of genomes to unprecedented heights. Along with various technological innovations such as genome-wide association studies (GWAS), transcriptomics, epigenomics, multi-omics, single-cell omics, and artificial intelligence (AI) are used to decipher brain function and identify causes of neurological diseases.

We are entering a new era where neurogenomics approaches enable us to decode brain function from a new perspective. Such studies are focused on analysis of genetic aspects of neurological diseases applying genomics in postmortem brain, comparative genomics using primates, and gene functional analyses using animal models. While genomics data provide a lot of powerful information, identification of gene networks associated with a specific brain function is often challenging. The aim of this Research Topic is to address this challenge by collecting and reviewing new cutting-edge studies combining genomics and other experimental approaches such as physiological or psychological information.

This Research Topic welcomes Original Research, Review articles, and new ideas related, but not limited, to the following topics:

- Relationship between brain activity or function and genomics

- Relationship between sleep or circadian rhythm and genomics

- Role of genetic networks in multigenic diseases

- Subtype-specific genetic networks in neurodevelopmental or psychiatric disorders

- Role of genetics in decision making and behaviors

- Multi-omics study focusing on genetics and metabolism

- Impact of environmental factors on genomics

- Genomic study of brain function using AI

- Genomic study of sex differences in the brain

- Genomic study of the human brain evolution and function from a new perspective

We aim that our collection opens new avenues for neurogenomics that will impact decoding the brain function.
