Immunity is a physiological function of the human body. It maintains the health of the body by destroying and rejecting the "non-self" such as antigens, damaged cells and tumor cells. Inflammation and immunity are closely related, whether as a defence against foreign invasion or an injury reaction. Inflammatory and immune disorders have become a growing health problem worldwide during the past decades. Chronic systemic and regional inflammation underlies the disease manifestations of Immune-Mediated Inflammatory Diseases (IMIDs). Regional inflammation and immune dysfunction promote targeted end-organ tissue damage, whereas systemic inflammation increases morbidity and mortality by affecting multiple organ systems. Chronic inflammation and skewed dysregulated cell-mediated immune responses drive many age-related medical disorders. Thus, IMIDs are commonly autoimmune-mediated or suspected to be autoimmune diseases. Another typical feature is that the dysregulation of the autonomic nervous system and hypothalamic pituitary adrenal (HPA) axis.

This Research Topic aims to investigate the pathogenesis and pathophysiological processes of inflammatory immune diseases (like SLE, RA, psoriasis, atopic dermatitis), explore the field of basic and clinical research, and discover new therapeutic agents. From data to basic function research of inflammatory immune diseases, potential new drug targets could be provided for inflammatory immune diseases by combining clinical case characteristics. Therefore, this topic hopes to include the screening of new drugs from new targets, the construction of novel drug vector systems, early diagnosis, the study of pathological mechanisms, drug development and the study of sequencing tools (e.g. single-cell sequencing, spatial transcriptome, CRISPR systems).

Following Volume I, the purpose of this Research Topic is to explore the functions and mechanisms of inflammatory immune diseases, target research, drug conversion and druggability research, based on the informatics approach for inflammatory immune diseases. In this Research Topic, we welcome original research articles, reviews, opinion, perspective, and systematic review, including but not limited to the following themes:

• Investigation on the pathophysiological mechanisms and new targets in inflammatory immune diseases
• Discovery of new drugs or the construction of new drug-loaded carriers for the treatment of inflammatory immune diseases
• Research on drug transformation and druggability of inflammatory immune diseases
• Mapping atlases of inflammatory immune diseases with revolutionary sequencing tools (e.g., single-cell sequencing, spatial transcriptome, CRISPR system) to provide new strategies and directions for treatment
