About

The Central Nervous System (CNS) has varying degrees of complex pathways for renewal throughout life. These physiological mechanisms are still incompletely understood. Nevertheless, these fundamental interactions promise tremendous chances for therapeutic approaches. Due to the multifaceted nature of deleterious influences on the CNS, whether from aging, degenerative disorders, trauma or metabolism, a comprehensive approach and understanding of regeneration in the CNS seems to be called for. Can the various findings and perspectives be integrated regarding intracellular mechanisms, the interplay of different cell types, immune and neuron crosstalk, extracellular matrix, fibrosis, ultimately the overall milieu? How do we address the accompanying major challenges for therapeutic CNS approaches? Currently, effective repair can take a long study time and has high costs. What methods can measure CNS early repair - from biomarkers to MRI and behavioral / functional studies? How can technologies like machine learning / AI improve time to reach the goal?

The topic is intended to stimulate comprehensive views on the topic of CNS repair and bring together different disciplines, at least conceptually. The aim is to break up compartmentalized thinking and give new impulses for future therapeutic approaches and perhaps beyond the CNS.

Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:

- Cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying CNS repair

- Therapy or Drug target research and development aiming at CNS repair

- Novel strategies, technologies, and (bio)markers to study brain renewal and repair efficacy early on

- Preclinical models and clinical study designs
