About this Research Topic
Insects display a wide range of complex behaviors both when interacting with their environment and when interacting with each other. While insects are currently used widely as models for a range of scientific disciplines, an understanding of their behavioral ecology, particularly outside of the lab environment, remains unknown. Recent developments in tracking technologies and phylogenetic methods have opened up the possibility to use comparative approaches to place insect behaviors in an evolutionary context. Such work will help us to better understand the evolution of complex behavior as well as the requirements of the sensory and neural systems that underpin them.
The goal of this Research Topic is to highlight the latest advances in insect behavioral ecology including both novel findings and novel methods. We hope that this collection of work will provide inspiration for future developments in the field.
This Research Topic is the result of a collaboration between Frontiers in Insect Science and the International Society for Behavioral Ecology Congress 2022.
Submissions are invited that review or provide novel advances in an area of insect behavioral ecology or a methodology for investigating insect behavioral ecology are welcome.
