About this Research Topic

This Research Topic is closed for submissions.

Background

There is still a lot of stigma surrounding Dementia and this can have many negative impacts on those living with it. Stigma can result in discriminatory actions and attitudes towards people living with dementia on both a personal and public level. This can lead to low self-esteem, increased social isolation, poor mental health, decreased quality of life in people living with dementia and increased negative impact of supporting someone with dementia.

This Research Topic aims to showcase evidence on why the stigma surrounding dementia is so detrimental to those who are living with it. It hopes to provide insights into research and interventions on how this stigma can be tackled and awareness raised, in the hope that the research presented will translate to best practice applications in clinical, public health, and policy settings.

We invite researchers to submit a range of articles including but not limited to original research articles, reviews, meta-analyses, opinions, perspectives, and case reports to provide new evidence on the following:

- Harmful impacts of stigma on people with dementia

- Interventions on reducing stigma surrounding dementia

- Health promotion in dementia

- Interventions in raising awareness for dementia
