Global warming is becoming more severe throughout the 21st century, as greenhouse gas emissions, mainly carbon dioxide (CO2), continue soaring. Climate change and its impacts is hitherto one of key research hotspots. Since natural agricultural systems depend on the climate environment, climate change has direct impacts on agricultural production. In this regard, how to achieve global food security under the effects of climate change is a primary challenge that we are encountering.

Although a growing body of studies has explored and assessed the degree and magnitude of the impacts of climate change on agricultural production, it is more crucial for us to put forward effective mitigation and adaptation measures and provide targeted coping strategies in the face of the risks posed by climate change on agricultural production, so as to achieve sustainable agricultural development and ensure regional and global food security. Therefore, effective adaptation strategies are needed to mitigate the negative impacts of climate change on crop production and further enhance agriculture resilience. The pressures driven by climate change and socioeconomic development have led to the challenges for farmers to choose those mitigation and adaptation strategies that together meet food, fiber, and climate policy requirements. Moreover, as impacts of climate change on crop production will likely vary substantially in space, environment-specific adaptation strategies may offer advantages. To some extent, strategies to enhance local adaptation capacity are needed to minimize climatic impacts and to maintain regional stability of food production.

This Research Topic aims to gather state-of-the-art Original Research and Review articles addressing the sustainable solutions for achieving global food security in a warmer world. Themes of interest include, but are not limited to:

• Genetic improvement through plant breeding and genetic engineering to develop new crops with stress tolerant traits and enhance resource efficiency
• Adaptive field management practices, e.g., sowing date adjustment, water and fertilizer management optimization
• Integrated assessment regarding the impacts of potential genetic and/or management adaptation strategies on both crop production and environmental sustainability
• Mitigation advantages of land use and land-management techniques
