About this Research Topic
Along with the prevalent issues of population growth, climate change, pollution increase, and the water crisis, sustainability has become the current hot topic around the globe. Using nanoarchitecture to address the issue of sustainability is an emerging solution that promotes the fast development of material synthetic chemistry. Among reported nanoarchitectures, carbon nanoarchitectures are undoubtedly the most widely studied materials due to their abundance, versatility, and stability, with some of the most representative examples including carbon nanotubes, graphene, carbon nanofibers, mesoscale carbons, and the recent metal-organic framework-derived carbons. In recent years, great advances have been made in exploring their potential for various applications, ranging from energy storage and conversion, gas adsorption/separation, to water purification and desalination, but more can and must be done to explore new carbon nanoarchitectures, as well as emerging sustainable applications of current carbon nanoarchitectures.
This Research Topic aims to showcase the latest developments in carbon nanoarchitectures to solve key issues in sustainable applications, including removal of noxious gas (e.g., NOx, SO2, etc.), CO2 capture and reduction, water purification/desalination, etc. In addition, it also aims to provide new insights into future directions for carbon nanoarchitectures and sustainable chemistry, e.g., new green synthetic strategies or fabrication procedures for carbon nanoarchitectures, and the application of carbon nanoarchitectures for other emerging sustainable technologies.
We encourage the submission of original research and review papers that address themes including, but not limited to:
• Carbon nanoarchitectures for noxious gas (e.g., NOx, SO2, etc.) treatment
• Carbon nanoarchitectures for CO2 capture and reduction
• Carbon nanoarchitectures for waste-water treatment by adsorption and environmental catalysis
• Carbon nanoarchitectures for water desalination by capacitive deionization, solar steam generation and membrane technologies
• Carbon nanoarchitectures for soil remediation
• Carbon nanoarchitectures from waste biomass
• Other strategies for green synthesis of new carbon nanoarchitectures
• Carbon nanoarchitectures for other sustainable and environmental themes
