The COVID-19 spread is changing the world. One of the basic health standards taken by the governments of many countries has been confinement. Gyms are closed, compelling people to find alternatives to exercise, and non-emergency physical therapy services are on hold. Consequently, different life habits have been affected, with the modification of routines of mobility, physical activity, and habitual exercise protocols. Under such unusual conditions, barriers to keep an active life's style are hard to overcome.
Covid-19 is an unprecedented global crisis that requires a swift response from the scientific community. This current context requires studies on the effects of psychological adaptation to the current lockout, physical, and social distances. The reduction and/or change in the habits of practicing physical activity makes it necessary to study the effect of confinement on different population groups. This pandemic demands to understand how to adapt the rehabilitation services and how to provide means to the population to maintain an active lifestyle and prevent sedentarism, and how to provide physical activity programs for amateur athletes, patients, and the general population.
The main aim of this Research Topic is to deepen the knowledge related to the adaptive psychological and behavioral responses to COVID-19, with the focus on the consequences of exercise and physical activity programs for the general population. Specifically, we are seeking to understand how this pandemic is affecting the rehabilitation services, to discuss how it is possible to provide means to the population maintain an active lifestyle and prevent sedentarism, how to provide physical activity programs for the general population, and how social distance and urban lockdown affect leisure activities and their relation to sedentarism.
We invite authors to submit manuscripts to answer these questions:
• Will this condition frail elderly and increase their health chronic conditions?
• Will this condition affect the disabilities and the functional condition of disabled people?
• How should children, adults, and the elderly stay active in a confined condition?
Additionally, we also welcome topics such as, but not limited to:
• Exercise addiction syndrome
• Mood alterations in sports
• New technologies applied to virtual training and effects on adaptive psychological response
