Epigenetics refers to heritable changes in gene expression patterns not caused by an altered nucleotide sequence. Recent studies have demonstrated that aberrations in epigenetic processes by DNA methylation, RNA methylation, histone modifications, and non-coding RNAs (ncRNAs) interactions are crucial for renal development, physiology and disease progression. Understanding the function and mechanisms of epigenetic modifications will open new avenues for identifying potential therapeutic targets and biomarkers in treatment of renal diseases.

This Research Topic entitled "Epigenetic regulation in renal development, physiology and disease" calls for original articles and reviews regarding the epigenetic modifications in the process of renal development, physiology and disease.

In particular, topics of interest include, but are not limited to:

• Non-coding RNA in renal development, physiology and disease;
• DNA methylation in renal development, physiology and disease;
