Diversity, as characterized by race, ethnicity or ancestry, is a foundational concept of human genomic research. The comprehensive characterization and biology of human genomes, the ability to implement genomic medicine, and the quality of genomic resources are all enhanced by the inclusion of samples and participants representing global populations.
This Research Topic will solicit manuscripts addressing the scientific benefits of including diverse populations in human genomic research across a wide spectrum of subtopics. These subtopics include, but are not limited to:
• Basic or clinical research in diseases or conditions with known health disparities;
• Basic or clinical research highlighting scientific results from diverse or underrepresented populations;
• Ethical, legal and social implications (ELSI) of conducting research in diverse or underrepresented populations;
• Case reports, community case studies, or policy briefs highlighting lessons learned from research in diverse or underrepresented populations;
• Development of methods, resources or approaches to facilitate research in diverse or underrepresented populations.
Eligible article types include: Original Research, Systematic Reviews, Reviews, Clinical Trials, Community Case Studies, Data Reports, and Policy Briefs. Contributions from minority or underrepresented first or senior authors are particularly encouraged. If selected for publication, one author from each contributing paper would be asked to provide a short paragraph highlighting a personal experience related to working on diversity in human genetics or viewpoint on what is missing from the field.
