About this Research Topic
In years to come, livestock-rearing will continue to play a vital role in secur-ing the livelihoods of large numbers of small-scale farmers as well as pastoralists. Under the altering climatic parameters, we need to emphatically, as well as scientifically, concede the superior traits of livestock breeds so that forthcoming generations can benefit from the invaluable genetic resources in terms of global food security and livelihoods in fulfilling the demand for energy, protein, and other critical nutrients.
Temperature or heat stress is one of the major environmental factors which influences the health and productivity of livestock populations. Differential responses of various livestock species and breeds to thermal stress have been documented on the basis of anatomical differences as well as physiological parameters; however, genetic components, variations in gene expression, and molecular mechanisms underlying acclimation and adaptation to heat stress are not yet abundantly documented in livestock.
The goal of this Research Topic is to highlight research, datasets and methodology-based manuscripts, as well as high-quality strategic reviews, in the recent advances of molecular mechanisms governing climate resilient livestock production.
This Research Topic welcomes (but is not limited to) manuscripts on the following themes:
• Identification of molecular markers associated with thermal stress tolerance
• Identification of regulatory elements at stressor genes
• Role of promoter/enhancers in regulation of thermal stress
• Expression patterns of various thermo-tolerant genes
• Identification of differentially expressed miRNAs/other noncoding RNAs and their stressor gene targets
• Transcriptomics and Proteomics data associated with global stress genes responses
• Molecular pathways associated with thermo-tolerance in livestock
• Genetic selection as the way forward for inducing thermo-tolerance in livestock
• Global profiling of livestock stressor genes
