Exercise testing plays an important role in the diagnosis and management of adult chronic disease. However in pediatric care exercise testing has not been fully developed and clinically utilised and one often relies on patient/parent report and questionnaires for clinical decision making. It is paramount that pediatricians realise that questionnaires reflect disease perception and exercise tests can provide complementary information of physiologic restrictions and limitations in health and disease.
The goal of this Research Topic is to enhance the understanding of health care providers treating children about the possibilities and clinical usefulness of exercise testing in health and disease and to provide guidance to them how to use exercise testing in tight conjunction with patient report in diagnosis and management of childhood diseases.
