Dynamic morphological and functional changes during brain development and maturation result from neurogenic events, such as neuronal proliferation, migration, axonal elongation, retraction, and myelination that are supported by molecular and genetic processes. Advanced computational analytic techniques are increasingly valuable in neurodevelopmental research studies. Recent such advances include novel data processing techniques for various forms of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), other microscopic imaging techniques, and molecular/genetic studies that can assist in answering fundamental questions about brain development. This Research Topic is focused on the combination of advanced analytic techniques such as machine learning and developmental neuroscience. The collection of manuscripts that will form this Research Topic include both developmental neuroscience-focused studies that make use of advanced analytic techniques as part of their methods, as well as novel method papers that can assist in future analyses to help uncover the complexity of brain development.

Neuroscience and advanced analytic computational techniques have become intertwined in modern scientific literature. The goal of this Research Topic is to provide a focused forum for the dissemination of cutting-edge research at the boundary of both developmental neuroscience and advanced computational technologies. Manuscripts will span research studies focused on producing developmental neuroscientific findings and hypotheses whereby advanced analytic techniques were used in the methods, as well as method-based papers that can be reapplied to many additional neurological datasets in the future.

The Scope of the manuscripts that will be considered for publication in this Research Topic include, but are not limited to:

• Neurodevelopmental findings using advanced computational technologies
• Advanced analytic computational techniques that are used, or can be used for developmental neuroscience
• Computational studies on animal models of developmental brain disorders
• Review articles assessing the interpretation of advanced analytic studies applied to developmental neuroscience
