The combination of multiplexing staining methods, new microscopic techniques, advanced computing power, and artificial intelligence opens new avenues in research and clinics for automated analysis of tissues, single cells as well as subcellular components, and even genetic parameters. A combination of biomarkers on protein, mRNA, and DNA levels supports the development of novel analytical/diagnostic approaches under the scope of precision medicine.

In this Research Topic, we call for papers focusing on advanced light and in particular
fluorescence microscopy and image/tissue cytometry applying methods of Machine and Deep Learning, as well as the combination thereof in automated analysis systems.

We are looking for novel applications showing in-situ measurement of biomarkers (proteins, DNA, RNA, glycol-proteins, extracellular matrix, and the microbiome), which will contribute towards the establishment of state-of-the-art technologies and protocols for personalized medicine and precision diagnostics.
