Synthetic biology aspires to revolutionize the way we engineer life and it has been successfully applied in a wide spectrum of areas over the past decade. If synthetic biology is to materialize its transformative potential, however, it has to adopt a computationally-driven approach to guide the design, implementation and testing cycles. A deep integration of computational and experimental methods will provide a platform for faster, inexpensive, robust and more reliable biological systems with far-reaching applications across seemingly disparate disciplines.
