In recent years, surgery has undergone a significant transformation with new technologies followed by new surgical techniques. Thanks to technological innovation, minimally invasive surgery has acquired more and more space in the surgical panorama. Furthermore, adjuvant therapies and the development of computer systems that generally require human intelligence are revolutionizing the approach to surgical diseases.

Therefore, these innovations could apply to different specialties and pathologies such as general surgery, surgical oncology, gynecology, urology, etc. Moreover, new surgical implementations are available for benign and malignant conditions.

This Research Topic is aimed at bringing together the latest innovations in surgery, crossing between different specialties and different surgical approaches to provide a concrete overview and update on modern-day surgery.

We welcome Original Research, leading-edge Reviews, and Clinical Trials related, but not limited, to the following aspects:

- Novel surgical and interventions being trialed in surgery

- Technical aspects and risk assessment in surgery

- New surgical development and Artificial Intelligence

- Refinements to current surgical procedures which produce positive postoperative outcomes

- Minimally invasive surgery techniques and pitfalls.

- Adjuvant and neoadjuvant therapy in surgical oncology

Important Note: Manuscripts consisting solely of bioinformatics, computational analysis, or predictions of public databases which are not accompanied by validation (independent cohort or biological validation in vitro or in vivo) will not be accepted in any of the sections of Frontiers in Oncology.
