Recent years have witnessed dramatic progress of medical informatics, benefiting from the dramatic progress in the field of physics and information technologies. Various types of equipment have been developed for non-invasive medical acquisition, and kinds of computational intelligence methods were proposed for smart analysis. They have brought significant progress for healthcare and life sciences. Yet, new challenges exist, primarily due to the booming volume of medical data as well as the ever-increasing smart healthcare requirements of the public. Artificial intelligence is believed to be a promising solution for this problem. It can automatically learn patterns from big data and its intelligence benefits from the increasing data volume. The integration of artificial intelligence can shed new light on the research of medical informatics.

The primary goal of this research topic is to collect state-of-the-art Original Research and Review articles focus on the application of artificial intelligence in the field of medical informatics. Achievements in terms of technical solutions, application expectations, challenge analysis as well as tutorials are all welcome. Topics include, but are not limited to:
