Farmers, regional authorities, agri-service providers have to handle large amounts of spatial data, which are used for spatial decision support in an agricultural context. All of these stakeholders rely on information and communication technologies for forecasting systems, yield estimation and risk alerts, and to address other challenges, such as sustainable resource protection, ecological farming, traceability of products, and quality assurance. This Research Topic explores how the latest Web and mobile developments and technologies on geospatial data processing, analysis and visualization, along with remote sensing and/or earth observation can or are being applied to advance the Agro-Geoinformatics field.
In this Research Topic we welcome contribution of original research articles, review articles, and methodological advances in geospatial technologies and remote sensing techniques applied to Agro-Geoinformatics. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
1. Issues related to design, development, deployment, use and validation of new mobile applications to support crop growth and related agricultural models, e.g., capture of in-situ spatial data or sensor data, social interactions and data sharing, etc.
2. Issues related to design, development, deployment, use and validation of Web applications and frameworks to enhance spatial data management and integration to support forecasting and decision-making processes at regional and local scale.
3. Architectural and methodological approaches to address geospatial data management, processing, monitoring, analysis and visualization of heterogeneous data
4. Review studies to critically assess the latest developments in the Agro-Geoinformatics field, particularly focused on the use of modern Information and Communication Technologies, e.g. mobile applications, rich internet applications, cloud-based solutions.
5. Use case studies, real-world applications and validations on the use of Web and mobile geospatial technologies in the Agro-Geoinformatics field.
We are particularly interested in improvements in data management, analysis, processing, monitoring, and visualization of agriculturally related spatial models for crop growth, and their support for decision-making processes at regional and local scale.
