Plants are exposed to a variety of biotic stresses for which they have evolved a number of mechanisms to defend themselves. The susceptibility and resistance to plant infections have significant implications for food security, and evolution.
There is a significant body of knowledge about plant infection and defense from a genetic perspective which needs to be validated and complemented by using other approaches, such as proteomics, in an attempt to understand how the different proteoforms regulate plant infection, disease symptoms expression, defense, and resistance.
This research topic welcomes all article types published by Frontiers in Plants Science that provides insight into the proteomics of plant infection and defense such as (but not limited to) the following topics:
• Comparative proteomic analysis that provides insights into the development of plant infection, symptoms, and disease resistance
• Proteome changes under induced and non-induced plant resistance to infection.
• Studies revealing the activity of the nuclear proteome relevant to immunity and or infection
• Applications of proteomics data in controlling crop loss due to plant infection
