About this Research Topic
This Research Topic covers the state of the science and provides an overview of recent interests, understanding and modeling of neuro-vascular coupling mechanisms, from the cellular to tissue scale.
This Topic aims at bringing together a broad spectrum of investigators from the neurosciences, experimental bio-physics, applied mathematics and computer science, towards a deeper understanding of the complexity of neuro-vascular couplings.
Discussions and investigations related to the various known mechanisms of neuro-vascular couplings involving neurogenic, myogenic, metabolic, information transfer by conductive responses, or others are welcomed.
Investigations concerned by the role of known intrinsic (e.g. intra-vascular pressure, wall shear stress, blood metabolites) or extrinsic (macro-circulation arterial pressure, endocrine) factors as well as new possible pathways (mediated by astrocytes, pericytes, etc...) should be proposed and discussed.
We encourage both specific (investigations on limited questions) and review, opinion on the current state of the art, either concerning new experimental methodologies, conceptual or modeling challenges.
We hope that this trans-disciplinary Research Topic will bring new insights and ideas to the field, give future perspectives while also addressing open questions and limitation of the current state of the art, either from the experimental side, at the tissue or cellular level, or the modeling one.
