We are now well into the third decade of the 21st century, and, especially in the last years, the achievements made by scientists have been exceptional, leading to major advancements in the fast-growing field of cell and developmental biology and particularly our understanding of nuclear functions. The Frontiers' Editorial Boards contain many of the scientists who have made and continue to make such advancements and, accordingly, Frontiers' Editors have contributed articles to a series of Research Topics and independently to highlight the latest advancements in research across this field. In line with this, we present this collection, led by the Specialty Chief Editor Prof. Eric C Schirmer, which is focused on new insights, developments, current challenges, the latest discoveries, recent advances, and future perspectives within the field of nuclear organization and dynamics.
This Editors’ Showcase includes both cutting-edge research and brief, forward-looking perspectives from the editorial board members reflecting on the current state of the field and outlining recent developments and major accomplishments that have been achieved and that need to occur to move the field forward. Many of these articles serve not only to identify the greatest challenges in the sub-disciplines, but also function as blueprints on how to address those challenges.
