The rising interest in different dietary patterns, diet interventions, like intermittent fasting, and the introduction of bioactive compounds in diets has continuously increased due to their potential for health maintenance, as well as prevention and treatment of diseases. Immunomodulatory and anti-stress properties are attributed to intermittent fasting, some dietary protocols, and bioactive compounds. These dietary interventions can contribute to health promotion from the preconception, the earliest life phases, until senescence. However, some dietary interventions can have negative repercussions on different stages of life. For this reason, studies, in vitro and in vivo, elucidating the role of dietary interventions in health maintenance and in different chronic diseases are important to assess their effectiveness and potential therapeutic targets.
This Research Topic aims to publish original research with in vitro and/or in vivo experiments, review articles and opinions that address the repercussions of dietary interventions including intermittent fasting, specific diets, and bioactive compounds on the modulation of health, immunity, and stress through the cycle of life.
