With Artificial Intelligence, assistive technology (AT) has become more popular for Occupational Therapists (OT) to support the elderly and disabled people thanks to increased flexibility, efficiency, and productivity. If these technologies and tools are not improving the activity performance and do not match the abilities and skills of the client, the OTs change or adapt them, as he or she will use them. Hence, these assistive technology devices and services are important for occupational therapy intervention for supporting individuals in improving their performance and increasing their participation in their activities. AT plays an important role in self-care, play, leisure, and productivity. AT aids a person who has functional limitations due to some pathology. Some challenges, which have been observed in Occupational Therapy interventions, are the decreased use of emerging technologies such as augmented/virtual reality or smartphones, robotics, and multidisciplinary intervention in children and adolescents. The embracing of AT by OT will be braced by affordability, positive client-therapist relationships, time, education/training, increased awareness, and usability features of the assisted technology. To accomplish this, however, Occupational Therapists are required to equip with time, training, and education necessary to offer their clients ATs that are client-centered, usable, and affordable. This SI will present the most effective, innovative approaches to develop and use the next generation assisting technologies and tools to assist occupational therapists and occupational therapy assistants for better wellbeing.
