Industrial and mining pollution is a global environmental concern. The environmental issues in the polluted surrounding areas include air pollution, erosion, loss of biodiversity, contamination of soil and surface/ground water by chemicals used in mining processes. Therefore, it is important to tackle these environmental issues and to minimize associated helath risks to the local communities. However, the research to investigate, evaluate and remediate industrial/mining pollution is still lacking or at an early stage.
Irrigated agriculture is on increase to enhance crops productivity around industry or mining-impacted area in arid regions. The current research mainly focuses on water quality investigation and risk assessment, and then proposes remediation strategies. but, in many places where mine-polluted water is used for irrigation, the research to address these issues has not yet drawn a clear conclusion. Other studies, initiated to develop irrigation water quality criteria and to assess the extent of pollution after water irrigation in industrial or mining-polluted areas, still require more work.
The scope of this Research Topic is to discuss the migration and transformation characteristics (or mechanism) of industrial /mining pollutants, risk assessment of these pollutants; the theoretical remediation methods and improved remediation technology will also be included. The areas covered by this research topic may include but are not limited to:
1) Migration and transformation of pollutants in "plant-soil-water";
2) Pollution risk assessment;
3) Pollutants treatment and remediation technology;
4) Photocatalysis;
5) Membrane separation;
6) Resource utilization;
7) Food safety.
