About

Plant pathogens, such as fungi, oomycetes, bacteria, nematodes, etc., can pose a great threat to plants in agricultural practices and natural ecosystems worldwide. To defend against the threat of various pathogens, plants have developed a complex innate immune system. A sophisticated molecular arms race is taking place in the biological evolution of plant-pathogen interactions. The plant cell wall provides the first physical barrier against pathogen infection. In contrast, plant pathogens secrete cell wall-degrading enzymes to depolymerize plant cell walls to enable invasion and supply themselves with nutrients. Meanwhile, plant immune receptors initiate signaling pathways involving a series of genes and their products and activate the defense system in the host plant. Therefore, comprehensive knowledge of the broad spectrum and underlying mechanisms of the interactions between plants and attacking pathogens will help improve plant resistance to pathogens.

The aim of this Research Topic is to greatly expand our understanding of the molecular mechanisms of plant immune system components and plant-pathogen interactions. We would like to bring together the latest advances in the disease resistance mechanisms in plants, including plant signaling, resistant gene, hormone signaling, plant secondary metabolite, and plant-pathogen interactions.

We welcome the submissions of Original Research Articles, Methods, and Reviews (please contact the Guest Editors before submission) related to, but not limited to, the following subtopics:
• Identification and function analysis of key genes related to plant disease resistance
• Identification and mechanism of plant secondary metabolite associated with plant-pathogen interactions
• Plant signaling: Intra/inter-cellular signaling, long-distance signaling, physiology for plant disease resistance
• Hormone signaling: hormone-stress signaling, hormone-plant development, hormone crosstalk in plant
• Discovery of novel battle mechanisms in plant-pathogen interactions
