The oral mucosa represents a fascinating scenario in the setting of medical research for its peculiar immune mileu. Not only the oral cavity hosts specific immune cells interacting with the local microbiome but also represents an easily accessible stem-cell source. Moreover, mucous oral involvement can occur both in the setting of dental disease and inflammatory, genetic, and/or immune-mediated dermatoses, including pemphigus, mucous-membrane bullous pemphigoid, lichen planus, epidermolysis bullosa, Sjogren syndrome, Behcet, lupus, and many others.
The present Research Topic aims to provide innovative and substantial information on inflammatory disorders of the oral mucosa. New insights in the setting of pathogenesis, diagnosis, and treatment of inflammatory oral morbid conditions can be given through the presentation of original data and/or literature review. The most recent advances in the clinical management of non-neoplastic oral diseases, including non-invasive imaging techniques and cell-based therapies, represent a crucial field of research in the immunological, dermatological, and dental settings.
The scope of this Research Topic is to give an overview of ongoing research on oral inflammatory disorders. In particular, we would like contributors to address the following themes: dental stem cells, autoimmune bullous disorders, oral lichen, genodermatoses, connective tissue disorders, and wound healing.
We accept many different article types including original research articles, reviews, perspective articles, opinions, and commentaries.
