Employees are experiencing revolutionary changes with advancements in automatic and intelligent manufacturing under Industry 4.0/5.0. New issues of occupational safety and health (OSH) have emerged such as OSH risks in human-machine interaction, OSH problems of older employees in aging societies, OSH concerns from newly emerging occupations. Cutting-edge information technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Big Data, Internet of Things (IoTs), wearable technologies, Electroencephalogram (EEG), Virtual Reality (VR), and Augmented Reality (AR) have demonstrated their potential for addressing the afore-mentioned issues for improving OSH management practices. Consequently, these emerging technologies have attracted considerable attention worldwide. However, despite the increased expectations from information technologies, the application of information technologies remains in infancy in OSH management. This is because the viability of advanced information technologies has not been fully demonstrated and validated in practice, which in turn, has hindered capital investment for implementing information technologies in OSH management.
To address the research gap, this Research Topic strives to validate the feasibility and re-evaluate the benefits of adopting new information technologies for OSH management. Researchers are encouraged to discuss the current achievements and remaining challenges faced by different stakeholders with insights and approaches for up-taking these technologies.
Authors are invited to present original research or review articles that will stimulate the continuing efforts in deploying Industry 4.0/5.0 for OSH management.
