About this Research Topic
The development of the current initiative is focused on presenting recent advances in the role of the microbiota in the integral intestinal health of children under 18 years of age, and the role it plays in the development and evolution of various gastrointestinal disorders, such as infantile colic, intestinal constipation, functional abdominal pain, gastrointestinal infections, various metabolic conditions (such as obesity, adolescent type 2 diabetes and MAFLD), and conditions such as food allergy and gastrointestinal complications of drugs (such as antibiotics and proton pump inhibitors).
We would like to receive original research papers, review articles and systematic reviews with meta-analysis (traditional meta-analysis or network-meta analysis) related to topics such as :
1) The microbiota and necrotizing enterocolitis in preterm or term infants
2) The microbiota and cow’s milk protein allergy in infants
3) Microbiota patterns and functional gastrointestinal disorders (e.g. infantile colic, functional abdominal pain/irritable bowel syndrome or functional constipation)
4) Microbiota and obesity, type 2 diabetes or MAFLD
5) Intestinal microbiota and pediatric cancer
6) Gut microbiota and allergy
7) Adverse effects of drugs (such as antibiotics or acid suppressants) on the gut microbiota
8) Bacteriophages and gastrointestinal conditions
Keywords: microbiome, gut diseases, children
