About this Research Topic
The impact that the COVID-19 pandemic had on older adults was significant in many cases. Older adults were more vulnerable to the virus and they were often in lockdown for longer or having to take more extreme measures to avoid getting the virus. Those living with pre-existing health conditions saw the COVID-19 pandemic affect them in different ways to those who didn’t. Others saw conditions materialize due to the unprecedented circumstances they found themselves in.
This Research Topic aims to showcase evidence on how the COVID-19 pandemic affected and continues to affect older adults living with mental health disorders, and those who have developed mental health disorders. It hopes to provide insights into research and interventions and how this can be tackled going forwards, with the hope that the research presented will translate to best practice applications in clinical and public health settings.
We invite researchers to submit a range of articles including but not limited to original research articles, reviews, meta-analyses, opinions, perspectives, and case reports to provide new evidence on the following:
- The mental health impact of lockdowns on older adults and how this led to the development of psychiatric conditions
- The effect of lockdowns on older adults with pre-existing mental health disorders
- The impacts that the COVID-19 pandemic had on care provided for older adults with psychiatric conditions
- What we have learnt about the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on older adults since the beginning of the pandemic.
Keywords: covid-19, pandemic, aging psychiatry, late life disorders, mental health disorders
Important Note: All contributions to this Research Topic must be within the scope of the section and journal to which they are submitted, as defined in their mission statements. Frontiers reserves the right to guide an out-of-scope manuscript to a more suitable section or journal at any stage of peer review.
