As the population continues to age, there is growing interest in developing effective anti-aging therapies that can improve quality of life and reduce age-related diseases. Recent research has highlighted the potential of phytochemicals, such as polyphenols, flavonoids, and carotenoids, in promoting longevity. These compounds have been shown to have antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and anti-carcinogenic properties, which make them potential modulators of age-related pathologies. Literature reports have suggested that these compounds can promote longevity by reducing inflammation and oxidative stress. In addition, they have been shown to improve cardiovascular health, cognitive function, and metabolic health. However, the mechanisms underlying the anti-aging effects of these compounds remain poorly understood, and further research is needed to better characterize their pharmacological properties and clinical applications.

This Research Topic aims to publish original research papers that investigate the anti-aging mechanisms of phytochemicals and evaluate their potential applications in healthy aging interventions. The original research articles may employ in vitro, 3D-bioprinted, and in vivo models to assess the effects of selected phytochemicals on cellular senescence, oxidative stress, inflammation, and other hallmarks of aging. This Research Topic will also publish review articles that describe the mechanism and recent progress of natural compounds in anti-aging research, and explore the efficacy of phytochemicals as potential therapeutics for age-related diseases, such as neurodegenerative disorders, cardiovascular disease, and cancer among others. Ultimately, this Research Topic will provide new insights into the pleiotropic effects of phytochemicals and their potential use as healthy aging interventions.

We welcome original research papers and review articles that address the following (but not limited to) topics:

•Mechanisms of phytochemicals with anti-aging effects: from molecules to systems;
•Effect of phytochemicals in productive and well aging;
•Application of 3D bioprinting in aging-related research;
•Challenges and opportunities in the research of phytochemicals as anti-aging agents;
•Effects of phytochemicals in the prevention and treatment of cancer, infectious diseases, metabolic disorders,
and disorders in the organ systems (cardiovascular, dermatologic, digestive, immunologic and inflammatory,
musculoskeletal, nervous, respiratory, urinary/urologic, etc.)

We hope that the Research Topic can bring together studies and contributions on the subject of phytochemicals and their anti-aging effects, highlighting the relevance of natural products in current research. We expect to highlight significant and representative progresses in the field with the intention to kindle further interest in focused areas by the larger anti-aging research community.
