About this Research Topic
This topic addresses any research related to human papilloma viruses and HPV associated cancers, and how development of HPV associated cancers can be prevented, considering factors often characteristic for tropical regions. This includes research addressing diagnosis and treatment of HPV infection and precancerous lesions, as well as implementation strategies for novel cervical cancer screening methods to increase take up. Research on preventive and therapeutic vaccines, as well as adjunct therapy options during surgical intervention; on alternative/novel treatment approaches such as immune and gene-based therapies; and studies on the influence of HIV and ART treatment on HPV infection and disease, are also welcome.
This Research Topic therefore welcomes submissions relating to the following subthemes:
• Prevention of HPV infection and disease progression
• Therapeutic and preventative vaccines and interventions
• Research on HPV molecular diagnostic methods
• Research on novel methods to detect HPV associated precancerous lesions
• Research on HPV-HIV interaction
• Therapeutic vaccination as an adjunct therapy during surgery
• HPV molecular epidemiology in the context of cervical lesion and cancer development
Keywords: human papilloma virus, cervical cancer, oropharyngeal cancer, anal cancer, HPV-HIV coinfection, preventive vaccines, therapeutic vaccine, diagnosis of precancerous lesions, molecular diagnosis, therapeutic intervention
Important Note: All contributions to this Research Topic must be within the scope of the section and journal to which they are submitted, as defined in their mission statements. Frontiers reserves the right to guide an out-of-scope manuscript to a more suitable section or journal at any stage of peer review.
