Etiologies of optic neuropathies are diverse and may include traumatic injuries, glaucoma, inflammatory processes, intracranial hypertension, vascular insufficiency, toxic exposures, hereditary factors, demyelinating diseases, or nutritional deficiency. The damage to the optic nerve can result in partial or full vision loss. Different types of optic neuropathies present with distinct clinical features, necessitating a thorough understanding of their underlying mechanisms for accurate diagnosis and optimal management. Research efforts in this field are crucial to advancing our knowledge of optic neuropathies, improving clinical outcomes, and enhancing the quality of life for individuals affected by these potentially debilitating conditions.

Goal
This Research Topic aims to provide a comprehensive overview of optic neuropathies, focusing on exploring the diverse etiologies, improving diagnostic approaches, and advancing treatment modalities. We seek to bring together insights from clinicians, researchers, and specialists working in outpatients’, inpatients’, or emergency wards, from diverse fields such as ophthalmology, neurology, neuroimaging, genetics, electrophysiology, and oncology. This collection will enhance our understanding of optic neuropathies and foster the development of innovative interventions to improve patient outcomes.
