Inflammation plays a pivotal role in the pathophysiology of acute myocardial infarction (AMI), influencing its onset, progression, and resolution. Recent research has begun to unravel the complex mechanisms linking inflammation to myocardial injury and repair, suggesting a double-edged role of inflammation, i.e., both detrimental and beneficial. While the deleterious effects of inflammation have been well-characterized as exacerbating myocardial damage, its beneficial roles in healing and repair are also undeniable. However, critical questions remain concerning the optimal timing for assessing the magnitude of inflammation, suitable therapeutic targets, and effective dosing strategies to curb adverse inflammatory responses without impairing healing processes.

This Research Topic aims to deepen understanding of the inflammatory processes involved in AMI, identify critical windows for therapeutic intervention, and review the efficacy of various anti-inflammatory therapies. Specifically, it addresses when and how to measure the degree of inflammation accurately, the timeline for effective intervention, the most promising molecular targets, and the tailored therapies suited to potentially vulnerable patient groups.
