This Research Topic is a collection of emerging insights, research, and perspectives presented at the 15th International Meeting on Visualizing Biological Data (VIZBI 2025). The meeting brought together world-leading researchers developing new visualization methods and bioinformatics tools to help scientists represent and interpret complex biological data. The meeting also featured science communicators who use visual storytelling to make intricate biological processes accessible to broad audiences.

We invite all VIZBI 2025 participants and speakers to contribute work that they presented and/or discussed during the meeting. Manuscripts submitted to this Research Topic will be handled by an editorial board selected from the meeting organizers, and will be reviewed by area experts, including both past and present speakers from VIZBI.

Scope: This multidisciplinary Research Topic seeks submissions detailing innovative visualization methods, software solutions, or case studies relevant to various life science disciplines, including:
● DNA, genomics, and epigenetics
● RNA and transcriptomics
● Proteins and proteomics
● Cellular systems and cellular-scale data
● Tissue-scale data
● Ecosystems and populations

Beyond technical contributions, we encourage submissions that address broader themes, such as how cutting-edge technologies or visual art practices enhance discovery, communication, and engagement within the life sciences. We welcome explorations into the application of these practices and other emerging technologies, including:
● 3D printing
● Extended reality
● Design practice
● Scientific animation
● Biomedical illustration
● Data-driven storytelling
● Integration of AI with visualization

Examples include discussions on using immersive or tangible 3D models in laboratories, educational settings, or museums to elucidate complex biological processes. We also welcome insights on how methodologies from design, film, or game development can elevate life science data exploration, improve the communication of biomedical breakthroughs, and highlight their implications for human health.

Submissions not authored or co-authored by VIZBI 2025 participants or speakers may be considered for publication in the Data Visualization section of Frontiers in Bioinformatics but will not be eligible for this specific Research Topic.

Accepted Article Types include Original Research, Review, Method, Technology and Code, Perspective, Data Report, and Research Report.
