Strigolactones (SLs) are a new generation of plant hormones that play a crucial role in various aspects of plant growth, including shoot branching, root architecture, and the establishment of mycorrhizal relationships. Recent studies have revealed the multifactorial implications of SLs and their analogs, including potential benefits in plant growth, responses, and developmental processes by improving biotic and abiotic stress tolerance. SLs also have a significant influence on the rhizosphere microbial population and regulate colonization and hyphal branching of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi. Despite the significant impact of branching strategies on the yield performance of fruit crops, limited research has been conducted on SLs in these crops.

The goal of this Research Topic is to provide a comprehensive overview of the biological activity of SLs and their role in plant growth responses and biosynthesis genes in plant architecture. The research aims to investigate the mechanisms of SL-induced modifications in the microbial community, specifically focusing on crosstalk with other signaling systems. The research also extends to the impact of SLs on human health, plant development, and microbial populations. The research aims to answer specific questions about the role of SLs in plant growth and development and test hypotheses about their potential benefits in improving plant stress tolerance.

To gather further insights into the role and potential benefits of SLs in plant growth and development, we welcome articles addressing, but not limited to, the following themes:

• The role of SLs in regulating plant architecture and root and shoot branching

• The potential benefits of SLs in improving plant stress tolerance

• The influence of SLs on the rhizosphere microbial population and their role in regulating colonization and hyphal branching of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi

• The impact of SLs on plant health

• The mechanisms of SL-induced modifications in the microbial community and their crosstalk with other signaling systems

• The role of SLs in regulating plant architecture through hormonal pathways and signaling mechanisms.

• The role of SLs in guard cell signaling
