However, gaps in knowledge persist, particularly regarding the dynamics of the mosquito microbiome during digestion and the potential implications for host physiology and metabolism.

The primary aim of this research topic is to further understand the modulation of the mosquito microbiome, particularly in response to blood meals. This includes exploring the shifts in microbial diversity and function, the potential for microbial transstadial transmission between larvae and adults, and the impact of these shifts on the mosquito's ability to transmit diseases. The research also aims to investigate the potential implications of the mosquito microbiome for the development of sustainable methods for insect-borne disease control.
