Organoids and organs-on-chips are at the forefront of biomedical research, significantly impacting disease modeling, drug discovery, and personalized medicine. These sophisticated systems replicate the intricate architecture of human tissues, granting scientists the ability to explore complex disease mechanisms and assess the effects of genetic and environmental changes on tissue functionality. Recent advancements in biomaterial design have significantly enhanced organoid creation, allowing for precise tuning of biomaterial properties to guide tissue development and cell fate specialization. Despite these strides, further integration of enabling technologies is crucial for fully understanding tissue-tissue interactions and improving patient-specific therapeutics.

This Research Topic aims to investigate the integration of enabling technologies in organoid and organ-on-chip systems, focusing on their capacity to revolutionize disease modeling and therapeutic discovery. Specifically, we are interested in advancements in synthetic biomaterial scaffolds and 3D printing technologies that influence cell differentiation, as well as new insights into cell-matrix interactions during development. These efforts aim to enhance the functionality of stem cell-derived tissues, which is critical for advancing personalized medicine and overcoming the challenges of drug discovery toxicity and inefficiency.
